Benfica have set the transfer price tag for striker Darwin Nunez at £85.5 million and Liverpool are reportedly not put off by the amount of money wanted by the Portuguese giants. Nunez found the back of the net 34 times in all competitions last season with six of those goals coming in 10 Champions League matches.
Jurgen Klopp is a “big” admirer of Nunez and a transfer could be made for the Uruguay international. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah’s futures are up in the air, and the 22-year-old striker would soften the blow of either player leaving.
Nunez joined Benfica in 2020 from Spain’s Almeria, but it wasn’t until last season that the striker blossomed into a world-class No. 9. The Benfica player showed his versatility playing as a centre-forward, secondary striker, and left wing. Nunez’s ability to play across the forward lines makes him ideal for Klopp’s Liverpool.
Benfica reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League where they were eliminated by Liverpool. Nunez impressed onlookers against the Reds defence scoring in both legs of the quarterfinals.
