Liverpool claimed a 3-1 win in Lisbon versus Benfica on Tuesday night in the Champions League quarterfinal first leg. Jurgen Klopp’s team will host Benfica in a week’s time with the chance to finish off the Portuguese club and qualify for the semifinals against either Villarreal or Bayern Munich.
Ibrahima Konate put Liverpool into the lead with a thunderous header from a corner in the first half. Sadio Mane doubled the lead just before halftime thanks to a headed cross from Luis Diaz.
While Diaz’s header to Mane was excellent, it was Trent Alexander-Arnold’s diagonal cross that found Diaz in space to start the play. Benfica pulled a goal back but Diaz restored Liverpool’s two-goal lead thanks to a brilliant through-ball from Naby Keita — who had a brilliant performance for the Reds.
