Liverpool host Bournemouth on Saturday in the Premier League and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night and will face both opponents without goalkeeper Alisson Becker due to a muscle injury.
Jurgen Klopp will once again call upon back-up Adrian who deputised for Alisson at the beginning of the season following the Liverpool No. 1’s severe calf injury. Alisson’s latest muscle injury occurred prior to Liverpool’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round on Tuesday night.
Klopp addressed Alisson’s injury situation in the build-up to Saturday’s home fixture against Bournemouth.
“Unfortunately Ali is out,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.
“He had a little incident in training before the Chelsea game. We all thought it was nothing and it was clear he would not play anyway, the plan was he was on the bench.
“There, we thought, ‘Come on, we don’t have to take any risks’ so left him out of the squad. [There was a] scan the next day and they found something. So now he is out. We will see – next week [out], for sure, and then we will see.”
According to Klopp, Alisson has a small hip muscle injury. The goalkeeper could miss Liverpool’s next three matches with the Bournemouth, Atletico Madrid, and Everton fixtures in doubt.
The manager has midfielder Naby Keita back in training. Captain Jordan Henderson is still unavailable but may return against Atletico. Meanwhile, Xherdan Shaqiri is still ruled out through injury.
